Imagine Yourself . . . .

playing chamber music with all professional musicians on the other instruments. You are the only amateur in the group.  Imagine concentrating mainly on your own part, knowing you won't lose the others; being surrounded by a steady rhythmic pulse which makes the music so much more compelling; listening to beautiful interpretations which you can play up to; playing at any tempo that suits you; and learning an incredible amount about the music.

This is the Premium Chamber Music Program.

Six Day Program Includes

bullet

four rehearsals on each of two works

bullet

coaching on your instrument (except woodwinds)

bullet

master classes/lectures

bullet

reserved performance time for you

bullet

faculty concerts

How does the program work?

You choose two different pieces to work on.  For each we assign you a professional group for four rehearsals (a total of six hours of rehearsal per group).  You receive three hours of coaching on your instrument in each group.

Do I have to be a really good player?

There is no ability requirement.  If you feel you would benefit from the program you are welcome.

What instruments are accepted.?

All instruments are welcome.  You must choose chamber music which requires professionals only on piano, violin, cello and viola.  There is no wind faculty.

What is my choice of repertoire?

You may choose any chamber music requiring any combination of piano, violin, viola or cello along with your instrument.

Examples (for more examples, press the examples button above):

if you play the piano, you might choose a
violin/piano sonata and a piano trio.

if you play violin, you might choose a
violin/piano sonata and a string quartet

if you play cello, you might choose a
piano trio and a string trio

if you play clarinet, you might choose a
clarinet quintet and a piano trio

What if I want to concentrate more on one work than the other?

You may divide your rehearsal time any way you like, as long as you tell us what you want.  This might affect your cost.

What if I want to work on more than two pieces?

You may split your eight rehearsals any way you wish, or schedule more rehearsals.  The costs are pro-rated according to your choices.

Will I have a chance to perform? Do I have to perform?

You may perform if you wish.  It is not required.  We plan 15 minutes of performance time for each participant.

You can have more performance time if you need it.  However, the total amount of performance time available is limited, and we will allocated the available time fairly among participants.  Please inform us as soon as possible of how much time you need.  We will give it to you if it is arithmetically possible.  There is an extra charge for overtime performance.

May I choose what faculty I work with?

You may request specific faculty. We will honor your request where possible.  Some faculty members are requested so often that we cannot meet all the demand.  These professionals are now listed as "special request faculty" (see the information sheet for a list of who they are)..  There is an extra charge of $100 (per four session group) if you request them.  This amounts to $25 per rehearsal.  If you do not request one of these faculty members, you might be assigned to him/her anyway -- it all depends on who asks for what, and the other schedule demands.

May I enroll in both the Premium and Regular Summertrios programs?

You may enroll in as many programs as you wish, and will receive a discount if you do so.  Because there is a great demand for piano slots in the regular programs, pianists in the premium program may enroll in them only after April 15th.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available by individual arrangement with the teacher at his/her usual rates.

Pianos

There will be about two grand pianos for every three pianists.  Additionally, there are extra pianos of lower quality available, which can be used for practicing.

Payment

$250 non-refundable application fee is applied to total costs.  Payment in full due on 5/1/2008.
Due to past problems, we will not hold your reservation if fees are not paid on time  You may request special  arrangements for late payment.   Late payment fee applies.

Refund Policy -- Please read and understand this

We incur costs for every participant who registers.  By May 1 or earlier we will have contracts with all the faculty and by May 15 we have guaranteed the college a certain attendance.  These people must be paid whether you come or not.  Further, we put much administrative effort into the scheduling process; additional time and effort is incurred if you drop out.

With these facts in mind, the policy is:  If you drop out prior to 6 weeks before the program start date, we will refund all but your non-refundable deposit.  If you drop out between four and six weeks from the start date, we will refund 1/2 your payments or $400, whichever is less.  We will not make refunds for dropouts within four weeks of the program start date, because all the money paid to us has been committed by that time.
