We try to place everyone who registers.

Where there are limits on how many we can take in a program, we accept people on a first come first serve basis.  If we must close a program due to over-registration, we will place you on a waiting list in the order we receive applications, and put you in the program as soon as there is an opening.  Wait listed people who cannot be accepted are first in line for the following year.

Friendly, supportive atmosphere

Summertrios works on fostering a friendly, supportive atmosphere.  We are humorous about ourselves, and serious about our music.  We know that each participant is playing as well as he/she can at the moment and we respect everyone's achievement.  Even playing a little bit is hard to accomplish.  At Summertrios we are each trying to do our best.   Competitive behavior is discouraged -- no matter who you are, someone plays better.

Exceptional learning

Our coaching staff is selected from among fine musicians who are interested in working with amateurs, and promote our goal of helping everyone move forward in their playing.  The coaches are deeply engaged, and offers ideas and approaches which you will not hear elsewhere.  The most advanced and least advanced of our participants learn.  Many people feel they make a year of progress in their week with us.

Placement Audition

If we don't know your playing, you must send us a tape or CD  -- this is for Placement purposes only.

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. We do not judge; we just place.  You don't need to sound like a professional.  You don't need to sound wonderful.  You are who you are, and that is fine. We don't need great audio quality.  But we really, really need to hear you.  Unless we know everyone's playing, there is no way we can assemble sensible groups.

I
n order to place you into well-matched groups, we need some idea how you play.  If you are attending for the first time, or if you have improved significantly since we last heard you, we must hear your playing.  If you send a tape or CD we suggest you include one fast and one slow piece, and would prefer to hear you solo or in a very small ensemble.

You do not have to be note-perfect (since none of the rest of us are), and the tape does not have to be technically wonderful.  As long as we can hear you that is fine.

Attending for more than one week

You are welcome to register for both weeks.  You may also register for the Premium Program  or the Concerto Program if you so desire.  Exceptions are:

bullet

Refund Policy

If you must drop out after registering, we will be as accommodating as we can.  However, we incur costs for every participant who registers.  As the program grows closer, we are locked into higher and higher costs for you.  We have guaranteed the colleges a certain attendance; we have hired faculty based on the registration; and these people must be paid whether you come or not.  Further, we have put much administrative effort into the scheduling process; additional time and effort is incurred if you drop out.

With these facts in mind, the policy is:  If you drop out prior to one month before the program start date, we will refund all but your non-refundable deposit.  If you drop out between two weeks and one month from the start date, we will refund $350 or 1/2 your payment, whichever is lower.  We will not make refunds for dropouts within two weeks of the program start date, because all the money paid to us has been committed by that time.
