FAQ

Q: How do I guarantee I will place the piece I want?

A: Attending as part of a pre-formed group is the only way to guarantee you play a particular piece. All other group assignments are made based on who has enrolled for the current year. While forming ensembles, we carefully consider participant preferences, playing levels, and available instrumentation. While we try to honor first choices in repertoire, it sometimes isn't an option based on enrollment.

Q: Why do some groups play with a coach or intern?

A: All assignments are based on enrollment. Occasionally, the only way to fill a slot in an ensemble is by including a coach or intern.

Q: How do I guarantee that I have a coach in my group?

A: You may arrange to have a faculty member play in your group (your pre-formed or other) for an extra fee.

Q: My coach does not play my instrument. Am I missing something?

A: No! Summertrios Faculty are chosen for their skill in coaching chamber music. Their focus is on your ensemble, the music, and teaching your group rehearsal and performance techniques. Individual instrumental concerns can be addressed through a private lesson with a coach (arranged between you and the coach for an additional fee).

Q: How do I make the Intensive Workshop more intense?

A: We may be able to place you in a third group. We often have open spots when forming groups and would be happy to place you if you indicate interest on your registration form and have the matching instrument and availability. We cannot guarantee placement and you will not be able to select repertoire for a third group since it is based on scheduling needs. We will check with you before adding you to a third group.

Q: How do participant concerts work?

A: Participants are allotted equal performance time based on the total number of participants and available concert time. Generally, it isn’t possible to accommodate everyone’s full work. Coaches meet with the Summertrios Artistic team to make any possible adjustments in the allocation of performance time.

Q: Where can I get help?

A: Please use the Contact form for general questions. For music-specific questions, please email our Artistic Coordinator, Keith Colón, at keith@summertrios.org or our Artistic Director, Leslie Tomkins, at leslie@summertrios.org. During the Workshops, the Summertrios office and information board will be located in our main dorm building on campus.
