Dive into Flute Immersion, an informative and supportive Workshop just for flutists. Play in coached flute choirs, quartets and trios with prepared music and sight-reading in every session. Karen leads daily Lab Sessions and masterclasses on the topics outlined below, offering information with plenty of opportunity for discussion and participation. MEET
KAREN
Karen Bogardus earned her Bachelor of Music degree
from the New England Conservatory and Master of Music
degree from Northwestern University. She attended
Juilliard Pre-College while in high school and spent one
year in Paris studying at the St Maur Conservatory.
Her principal teachers were Keith Underwood, Walfrid
Kujala, and Ransom Wilson. She was also very
influenced by Jean Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion
(which whom she took master classes with for three
summers).
In 1986 before moving to Mexico Ms. Bogardus received
her first orchestral contract with the Orquestra
Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal. During the eight years
Ms. Bogardus lived in Mexico she held Principal Flute
positions with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Aguascalientes,
Sinfonieta del ISSSTE and Filarmonica de Queretaro,
She held the Assistant Principal Flute positions with the
Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa and the Orquesta Sinfonica
de Jalisco.
Currently, Ms. Bogardus holds principal flute positions
with the Binghamton Philharmonic, Berkshire Opera
Festival, Phoenicia Voice Festival, and Martina Arroyo
Foundation Opera Orchestra. She has performed with
the Buffalo Philharmonic, American Ballet Theater
Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic,
Gotham Chamber Opera, Teatro Grattacielo Opera Company,
American Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony, New
Jersey Festival Orchestra, Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony, Dorian Quintet, New York Philomusica, several Broadway Shows and dozens of other NY based orchestras. She can be heard on numerous TV and film soundtracks. She has performed chamber works in the Carnegie Hall Making Music series. Ms. Bogardus has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras both in the US and abroad. While living in Mexico, Ms. Bogardus was flute professor at the Conservatorio Nacional de Mexico and the Universidad Autonoma de Zacatecas. Currently, she teaches at the Hotchkiss and Diller Quaile Schools. She has over 20 years of experience coaching chamber music mostly at the 92nd St Y, but also at the Diller Quaile School and Mannes School of Music. Ms. Bogardus is a prizewinner of the Myrna Brown and Artists International Competitions and won first place in the Continuo Arts Foundation Young Artists Competition with her chamber group, Emerald Trio. Emerald Trio recorded a CD of pieces written for them by New York City-based composers, which was released on Naxos.

Check-in is in the afternoon of the 15th,
The first session will begin promptly in the morning of the 16th
Check-out is in the morning of the 20th.
You may still apply after March 1st and we will place you, if possible.
All payments are due by April 30th.
FEES & HOUSING
CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
Refund of tuition/housing costs minus a $300 administrative fee will be given through April 30th.
No refunds can be given after April 30, 2020,
A minimum of 5 participants must register by March 1st in order to hold the workshop. In the event of too few registrations, a full refund will be given.
We strongly recommend the purchase of trip insurance.
